The Montenegrin women’s youth football team celebrated a triumphant start in the preliminary round of qualifications for the European Championship.
In their opening match of Group B1, the Montenegrin team overcame hosts Albania with a score of 4:2 in Elbasan.
Albania initially took the lead with a goal from Jessica Ndoy in the 16th minute.
Just three minutes later, Katarina Čađenović equalized from the penalty spot, and by the 25th minute, Tatjana Đurković had completed the comeback with a goal for Montenegro.
Coach Ivan Tatar expressed that the team started the game positively, despite missing an opportunity during their first attack.
“A controversial penalty that our goalkeeper saved disrupted our momentum. However, we remained undeterred by the home team’s initial lead and maintained our rhythm to create more chances. We began the second half with less intensity, as we subconsciously fell back. Although we remained a better team overall, the opponent nearly equalized towards the end,” Tatar discussed.
He also mentioned being pleased with the players’ efforts and performance.
“I hope we can recover well and adequately prepare for our toughest opponent in the group,” Tatar added.
In the other match of Group B4, Northern Ireland defeated Azerbaijan decisively with a score of 4:0.
The Montenegrin national team will face Northern Ireland next on Friday at 11:30 AM.
In the concluding match, our team will take on Azerbaijan three days later.
Advancement to League A for the upcoming cycle is reserved for group winners and the best second-placed team.
