Petrovac Makes a Comeback to Reach Cup Semifinals
Following Mornar, Dečić AdmiralBet, and Iskra, Petrovac has also clinched a spot in the semi-finals of the Montenegrin Cup, triumphing over Rudar with a score of 2:1 at home today after a remarkable comeback.
In just two minutes, Petrovac managed to reverse the score and moved closer to their goal of reaching the final of this esteemed competition. Petrovac previously secured the Cup title in 2009 by defeating Lovćen (1:0) and reached the final again in 2015, where they faced a heartbreaking defeat against OFK Titograd with a score of 2:1 after extra time.
The home side had the first opportunity of the match in the 24th minute. Following a blunder by Rudar’s goalkeeper Vuksanović, Petrovac’s Šimun intercepted, only to miss the target with his attempt.
This was the initial thrill of the game, and merely a minute later, Vučićević had his own chance but skewed his shot wide from approximately 16 meters on the opposite end.
In the 29th minute, Vučićević made amends – a throw-in by Božinoski found its way to him after Kojašević was blocked, and he expertly slotted the ball into the net.
The first half concluded without further excitement, but Petrovac found a way to turn the tide in the second half in a rapid two-minute sequence. In the 59th minute, they earned a corner, and although Vuksanović denied a shot from Kapisod, Bašić capitalized on the rebound to score.
Just two minutes later, the turnaround was complete: Kastanjeda delivered a cross from the left, and Šimun struck beautifully from the edge of the box to find the net.
Rudar squandered their best opportunity shortly after, in the 67th minute, as Kojašević sent his shot astray following a break.
Petrovac will resume the MeridianBet First Montenegrin Football League on Saturday (17), with a home fixture against Otrant-Olimpik.
As for Rudar, the Pljevlja side will continue their campaign in the Second League on March 1st with an away match in Podgorica.
