The first half had its flaws, yet it showcased numerous positives – the second half, however, revealed many of Buducnost’s shortcomings.
Ludwigsburg’s handball team surged through Podgorica, delivering one of the most lopsided defeats to the Montenegrin giants at “Morača” – 36:25.
“We lost our grip in the second half; our missed opportunities led to a disappointing defeat,” said Bojana Popović, head coach, after the match.
This heavy loss against the European vice-champions came just a week after a heroic draw against the continent’s champions – Djer.
“Defensively, we were not up to par compared to our previous match against Djerba – this was a challenging game against a physically demanding team that reached the Champions League final last season and retained most of their core players,” Popović added.
At one point, Buducnost trailed by 13 goals.
“I attempted several substitutions, but we couldn’t contain the opponent’s strong offensive plays, and we made too many mistakes in our own attack,” concluded Bojana.
Budućnost allowed 17 goals in the first half, culminating in the Germans finishing with a total of 36.
“We didn’t perform at our expected standard, particularly in defense where improvement is essential. Our poor defensive effort was key to determining the outcome,” stated Nina Bulatović, the right winger for the “blue and white”.
