Czech Republic Offers Robust Support for Montenegro’s European Integration

The Deputy Prime Minister for Foreign and European Affairs, Filip Ivanović, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, Jan Lipavský, today in Podgorica. This meeting provided an opportunity to reinforce the robust bilateral relations between the two friendly nations and to convey their shared commitment to enhancing cooperation.

Deputy Prime Minister Ivanović expressed his appreciation to the Czech Republic for its ongoing support of Montenegro’s European integration, underlining that EU membership remains the country’s primary strategic objective.

It is essential that the enlargement remains a priority in EU policy and that global events do not distract from the integration process. Montenegro is committed to meeting all reform requirements and maintaining its position as a leader in the accession journey. Our nation aspires to join the EU not through shortcuts, but solely through earning progress in reforms, Ivanović articulated.

Minister Lipavský reiterated the Czech Republic’s unwavering support for EU enlargement, highlighting that the process must be merit-based and reliant on meeting the accession criteria.

Economic collaboration was another key aspect of their discussions, with Minister Lipavský noting the considerable potential for enhanced cooperation, especially in the sectors of defense industry, tourism, and investment.

Another subject addressed was the potential establishment of a Montenegrin diplomatic mission in Prague, which would further promote bilateral relations and facilitate future collaboration.

The officials also shared perspectives on security challenges and prevailing global developments, reaffirming their commitment to the NATO alliance and emphasizing the importance of strengthening European security. Deputy Prime Minister Ivanović stressed the critical role of diplomatic initiatives in ending the war in Ukraine, asserting that the path to maintaining long-term stability in Europe hinges on preserving EU unity and actively engaging in dialogue with strategic partners.

Both parties concluded that Montenegro and the Czech Republic will continue to cultivate close cooperation across various areas of mutual interest, including economic ties, tourism, education, and defense. Minister Lipavský reassured that the Czech Republic will remain a reliable partner for Montenegro on its journey towards EU membership.
