Vladan Spaić, a Montenegrin water polo player, took to social media to issue a public apology to Vuk Milojević, a player for Jadran Mtel, after he suffered a serious injury during the Champions League match between Marseille and Novljan on Wednesday.
Milojević sustained a jaw injury, and Spaić has been suspended for 10 matches by LEN.
“As a long-standing member of the Montenegrin national team and a player for the Marseille water polo club, I feel it is my responsibility to speak to the public. Last Wednesday, during our opening Champions League match in Marseille, there was an incident I would never wish for. Following a goal, there was an unintentional contact with Vuk Milojević, a player from Jadran in Herceg Novi, which unfortunately resulted in his injury and my subsequent expulsion from the game. I sincerely regret Vuk’s injury,” Spaić expressed on Facebook, adding:
“Water polo is a sport where passion and dedication can occasionally lead to uncontrolled actions, but I have never intended to compromise another player’s safety. I have maintained communication with Vuk since he returned to Serbia. I wish him a swift recovery and a successful return to the pool, as well as the best of luck for the remainder of the season,” stated Spaić.
