Although it ended in a loss, October 12 will undoubtedly be a significant date for the Budućnost Water Polo Club.
The Podgorica team faced Vukov from Novi Belgrade today in their first official senior match in the Regional A1 League. Aleksandar Aleksić’s squad showed commendable resilience against one of the league favorites, ultimately falling short with a score of 10:9.
The match’s momentum was established in the first quarter, where Budućnost struggled to find their rhythm, allowing the home team to capitalize and secure a 5:2 lead.
The “blue and white” team fought hard to level the score, and an early goal by Marko Bošković in the third quarter raised hopes for a comeback at 7:6, but the Wolves managed to stave off the challenge…
In the final three minutes, Budućnost posed a threat once more, and with a goal from David Stevović, they reduced the deficit to just one point at 10:9.
Unfortunately, no further goals were scored, solidifying that as the final tally.
Stevović ended the match impressively with three goals without missing, Bošković added two, while Neđo Baštrica, Igor Uskoković, Goran Grgurević, and Mlađan Janović each found the net once.
For the opposing team, Draško Gogov stood out with four goals.
In the opening round of the second regional tier, the other two local teams also faced defeats, with Zadar overcoming Budva (12:10) and Zemun edging out Kataro (10:9).
In Budva, Dragoljub Ćetković, David Delić, and Aleksa Golubović each netted two goals, while the Kataro team saw Marko Milić lead with three goals, complemented by two from both Nikola Marković and Dušan Milaš.
Interestingly, Budućnost will return to the pool tomorrow in Belgrade, facing Zemun again at 20:30.
