Danijela Džaković and Simona Petranović Shine in the Croatian Cup Final
During the past weekend, Danijela Džaković, the standout Montenegrin volleyball player overseas, delivered an impressive performance in Azerbaijan. Nevena Vukčević maintained her solid form, while Simona Petranović came tantalizingly close to clinching her first trophy of the season.
Danijela Džaković, representing our national team, was highly motivated during Mili Avijasi’s commanding 3:0 victory over Absheron. She contributed significantly to the win with 18 points, helping her team secure another final win in the third round of the championship.
Nevena Vukčević also had a commendable outing, reaching double digits in scoring as her GEN-I Volley triumphed 3:1 over Ankaran in the eighth round of the Slovenian championship. The Nova Gorica team snapped a streak of four consecutive losses, positioning themselves firmly as the fifth team before the playoffs with two rounds left.
Mladost from Zagreb made it to the Croatian Cup final, while continuing their winning spree that dates back to October of last year. Simona Petranović’s squad outperformed Dinamo in a thrilling Zagreb derby during the Cup semi-final, finishing at 3:2. They will clash with Kaštela in the final. Another Zagreb derby is on the agenda tomorrow, with Mladost set to face Dinamo again, this time in the semi-final of the MEVZA League Final Four. Simona played only the third set in the Cup semi-final but was instrumental in the Croatian Super League, leading her team to a 3:0 win against Don Bosco with 13 points to her name.
In France’s League A, Bordeaux, featuring our own Katarina Budrak, faced a challenging away encounter against Nantes, losing 3:1 in the 23rd round. As a middle blocker, she scored five points, with her team aiming to secure a position in the playoffs over the next three rounds.
In Romania’s championship, playoff season has commenced, and our representative in Division 1 celebrated a hard-fought victory. Lugoš Mine Dragović edged out Koroni Brasov on the road with a 3:2 win, although our representative did not score. The return match at Lugoš is slated for Wednesday.
Darja Popović put forth a commendable effort in the Serbian championship, scoring eight points for her team, Omladinac, which unfortunately fell to Radnički with a score of 3:2. With just three rounds left, Omladinac holds a record of two wins against 17 losses, on par with the second to last Inđija and Spartak from Subotica.
Meanwhile, Jedinstvo, coached by Montenegrin women’s volleyball coach Jovo Caković, is showing excellent form, closely trailing the leading teams after a 3:0 victory over Partizan. Our young middle blocker Staša Mitrović played in the third set, contributing to the team’s fifth consecutive win, which gives them a solid chance to finish in the top four before the playoffs.
Banja Luka achieved a 3:1 victory over Orašje in the Premier League of Bosnia and Herzegovina, with Montenegrin middle blocker Teodora Rakočević making a valuable contribution of nine points to the triumph.
