The Champions League Makes its Comeback in Kotor, While Jadran Heads to Trebinje

Following the initial round, it’s now time for the first home matches in the Champions League—or for one Montenegrin team, a nominal home game…

The top club water polo competition makes its return to Kotor after almost 14 years, with Primorac set to host Savona in the 20th round starting at 2:00 PM.

Meanwhile, similar to last season, Jadran will play their home games abroad, in Trebinje, where they will face Barceloneta today at 6:15 PM.

A chance for packed stands

Primorac clinched the Champions League title in 2009, reached the final the following year, and last participated in the elite in January 2011, facing defeat against Vaša (9:8).

“The Champions League has returned to Kotor after 14 years—this is a great opportunity to fill the stands and play a match that we missed in the past two encounters, where we were not satisfied with our defense,” said Drasko Brguljan.

The Kotor team is aiming for victory against Savona after suffering two consecutive defeats, where they performed commendably against formidable opponents like Olympiakos and Jadran from Split.

“Until the game, we will focus on tightening our defense as much as possible. It’s not just a tactical issue; it’s up to us. We just need to bring a bit more aggression. I hope to see an improvement in defense starting with Savona,” Brguljan added.

Coach Vjekoslav Pasković is also anticipating a full crowd.

“We’ve had a busy week with two challenging matches and showed promising performance for this period of the season. We have adequate time until Wednesday to rest and adequately prepare for Savona. I truly believe it’s a unique opportunity for fans to come out in numbers to support these young players. They deserve it,” Pasković commented.

Excellent conditions in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Jadran also faced defeat in the opening round but performed well at the Marseille pool—now they seek their first points against the strong Barceloneta. Unlike Primorje, there’s no spectacle in Herceg Novi due to the known issues the team from Škver faces with their pool, leading club officials to select Trebinje over Kotor, Budva, or Podgorica…

“We have excellent conditions here; I came with the national team and was always welcomed and supported,” emphasized Vladimir Gojkovic, coach of Jadran.

Similarly, Aleksandar Ivović, a significant new addition from Novljan, shared a positive message.

“I’m playing in Trebinje for the first time, but I’ve heard only good things about the team, and I’m convinced of the excellent conditions,” said Ivović.

In the first round, Barceloneta convincingly triumphed over Vaša (18:7).

“I am confident that we will give our all for a strong performance and a favorable result,” Gojković asserted.
