The second phase of the football season in Montenegro kicked off with a significant upset as Iskra defeated Buducnost 4:1 in the Cup quarterfinals held today in Tuzi.

The match remained goalless during regular time, and in the penalty shootout, all Iskra players converted their kicks flawlessly. Danilovgrad’s goalkeeper, Tomaš Đurović, stood out with two crucial saves against Piščević and Gašević.

This outcome was a monumental shock for Buducnost, particularly in a year when they celebrate their 100th anniversary. The club’s ambition was to commemorate their centenary with a double crown, but they were thwarted by a team currently sitting in sixth place in the Second Montenegrin League. This defeat also meant Buducnost relinquished the trophy they had secured in the previous season. Their last double crown was achieved in 2021.

The first half saw no goal-scoring opportunities, with Buducnost squandering their best chance towards the end when Orahovac struck the crossbar from a corner delivered by Šarkić. Grivić, Mijović, and Bojović also failed to find the back of the net, while Iskra’s young goalkeeper Đurović was impressive in saving Bojović’s attempt.

As the penalty shootout commenced, Iskra’s players executed their shots with precision. Obradović, Perović (who converted with a “panjenko”), Vučinić, and Šćepanović all scored.

For Buducnost, Šarkić netted a penalty, but Piščević and Gašević missed their attempts.

In earlier matches, Mornar and Dečić AdmiralBet advanced to the semifinals, while the final semifinalist will be decided in the upcoming clash between Petrovac and Rudar on February 18th.
