“Despite Several Technical Errors, Andrijana Tatar Proved Her Worthiness for the National Team”
The Montenegrin women’s handball team faced a defeat tonight in Prelog against Croatia (23:21) during the debut of new coach Suzana Lazović.
After the match, Lazović remarked that the game served as an excellent evaluation for the players, allowing them to explore various strategies and lineups. Although winning was not the primary focus, too many technical mistakes and easily conceded goals were evident as areas needing improvement.
Lazović emphasized that there were multiple positives in the team’s performance, as well as aspects that require attention before their opening match at the European Championship on November 29.
“This was a fantastic trial for all the players. We experimented with different strategies and formations, evaluating our defensive and offensive approaches. While the outcome wasn’t our main goal, it doesn’t mean we didn’t aim for victory. We overlooked certain fundamentals, which contributed to our loss. Nonetheless, it was essential for all the players to gain experience, as it helps us identify who we can rely on for our preparations this November and our participation in the European Championship. There were various commendable aspects of our game, but also areas that need refinement before our first match in Debrecen, especially considering that our opponents will be prepared to capitalize on our mistakes,” Lazović stated.
Milena Raičević and Đurđina Jauković made their return to the national team, with Katarina Džaferović also shining in the offensive play. However, the new coach particularly praised Andrijana Tatar, the pivot from Romanian club Baja Mare.
“Andrijana deserves special mention as she adhered to our agreement on both ends of the court. Had I not believed she had what it takes for the national team, she wouldn’t have made the squad, and I’m pleased she proved her selection justified through her commitment and performance. Milena Raičević and Đurđina Jauković bring considerable experience, and while I anticipated that kind of performance from them, I believe there’s still more potential to tap into their game,” concluded Lazović.
