Lightweight champion Jarvon Davis had an underwhelming first bout that ended in a draw against featherweight champion Lamont Roach in New York.
The fight progressed at a leisurely pace, favoring the challenger, and during the ninth round, a pivotal moment occurred when Jarvon fell to one knee and went to his corner.
If the referee had ruled that it was a knockdown, the decision could have been lost on the scorecards.
“I was styling my hair before the fight, and during the match, the grease got into my eyes. I couldn’t see a thing and had to clear my face. Why is everyone booing me!? It’s frustrating because one moment they love me, and the next, they don’t,” expressed WBC world champion Davis.
Roach is the first opponent in Davis’ career spanning 30 fights to remain unbeaten and only the second boxer overall to do so, boasting a record of 25 wins, two draws, and one loss.
