Alen Šćuric Taken Into Custody, Allegedly Linked to 14 Offenses

On Wednesday, the police in Zagreb announced that they have filed a report against Alen Šćurica (56), the director of the Zagreb Majorettes and an aviation analyst for certain Montenegrin media, on suspicion of committing eight criminal offenses related to violations of children’s rights and six offenses of sexual harassment involving 11 minor and adult majorettes.

The Zagreb Police Department (PUZ) identified Šćuric in their announcement, stating that it had conducted a criminal investigation into the actions of the 56-year-old in collaboration with the Municipal Criminal State Prosecutor’s Office in Zagreb and the Krapina-Zagorje police. They confirmed that Šćuric was handed over to the detention supervisor on Wednesday evening “within the legal deadline.”

The PUZ noted that the criminal investigation is ongoing, with the goal of identifying all victims or parties harmed by these criminal offenses related to the protection of children and youth, and there are also suspicions that Šćuric, as the sole owner and authorized representative of one company and three associations, may have committed elements of criminal offenses within the realm of economic crime.

The police expressed gratitude to the media for their significant role in raising public awareness about unacceptable behaviors and empowering victims. They urged any victims to reach out to the police with confidence.

The investigation into Šćuric was initiated by the Zagreb police after he was recorded acting inappropriately and abusively towards a 3-year-old majorette on February 18, during an event to welcome the Croatian handball team at Zagreb’s Ban Jelačić Square, as reported by N1.

During this incident, Šćuric allegedly insulted an 18-year-old majorette based on her gender, an act which the police characterized as particularly insolent and humiliating. Following his arrest, a restraining order was issued against Šćuric, preventing him from approaching the victim.

Šćuric has publicly denied the allegations, claiming that he raised his voice due to professional standards. The incident has led to public outcry, prompting former majorettes to come forward with additional allegations regarding similar misconduct by Šćuric in the past.

In December, Šćuric made an impassioned appeal for the survival of the Zagreb Majorettes, a private organization, after the City of Zagreb terminated its funding due to inadequacies in a public competition. He even threatened to burn the uniforms of the majorettes in front of the city administration headquarters.

After the incident following the handball team’s reception, the City of Zagreb and the Zagreb Tourist Board publicly condemned Šćuric and distanced themselves from him. Additionally, GNK Dinamo announced they would cease utilizing the services of the majorettes. On February 6, during the regular assembly of the Croatian Majorette Association, Šćuric was ousted from his position as head of the association and as a referee.
