The Extraordinary Electoral Assembly of the Water Polo and Swimming Association of Montenegro, during which the new president will be elected, is scheduled for Friday (16) at the VPSCG headquarters in Podgorica. The contenders for the position are Nikola Milić and Veljko Uskoković.
Milić has garnered the support of seven clubs, while Uskoković is backed by Primorje. Uskoković urged the delegates via Facebook today to cast their votes without fear and in accordance with their conscience.
“As we approach the upcoming elections for the VPSCG Assembly, I wish to emphasize that the advancement of swimming and water polo in Montenegro is at a critical junction. Over the past decade, the performance of both our national teams and clubs has fallen significantly short of expectations. I believe that many swimming and water polo enthusiasts share my sentiment that we should be dissatisfied with the current leadership of the Alliance,” Uskoković expressed.
He also noted that “the younger representative teams and club selections exhibit hope for a brighter future, in which I play an active role.”
“Rather than expanding our base, clubs are closing down, and the same applies to our infrastructure. The reputation of Montenegrin water polo has been tarnished by doping scandals, referee controversies domestically and internationally, and match-fixing schemes that have siphoned hundreds of thousands of euros in illicit funds from betting establishments. It is evident to all that my respected opponent represents a continuation of the current leadership of the Association. If you wish for things to remain unchanged, the choice is straightforward,” Uskoković declared.
He expressed a desire for a shift in strategy, promising a new direction for the Association while honoring the quality contributions that have been made thus far.
“I call for a joint effort toward a future robust in participation, utilizing the solutions I have repeatedly discussed in my Work Plan and Program which I submitted to the clubs and Assembly delegates. This warning that our primary sponsor may withdraw their funding should my victory be contingent on untrue narratives is both sincere and serious, akin to those who propagate these falsehoods. In light of the many promises circulating during this period, I urge the delegates to deliberate thoughtfully, discard any imagined fears, and vote according to their conscience,” Veljko Uskoković concluded.
