In Croatia, approximately 45 percent of citizens struggle to meet their basic living expenses, positioning the country among the European Union (EU) nations facing the most severe financial challenges, as revealed by the latest Eurofund research.

Only Greece reportedly ranks worse, with 55 percent of respondents indicating they are barely able to “make ends meet,” according to Nezavisne novine.

Countries where a significant portion of the population feels acute financial pressure include Lithuania and Estonia at 41 percent each, followed by Hungary and Cyprus at 40 percent. The EU average stands at 32 percent.

Conversely, residents of Luxembourg enjoy the most favorable conditions, with only 17 percent facing financial difficulties. Germany, the Netherlands, and Austria also report a lower percentage of individuals struggling to cover basic expenses.

HRT broadcasts the research graph, noting that this information emerges amid Croatia’s intense discussions regarding the rising cost of living, inflation, and challenges related to citizens’ purchasing power. Experts emphasize that significant measures are essential to enhance the financial security of a large segment of the population.
