“From Top of Scotland to Novi Pazar: Rubežić Joins Club He Once Represented on Loan in Just Three Months”
Following a draw with Celtic and a victory over the formidable Rangers just three months prior, they were leading the Scottish Premiership, and this spring they’ll be competing for Novi Pazar.
Slobodan Rubežić, a player for the Montenegrin national team, has made an unexpected transfer decision. Rather than continuing with Aberdeen, he will be joining the club he previously represented on loan for the remainder of the season.
According to the Beta news agency, the Serbian Super League team will have the option to purchase him from the Scottish Premier League. Rubežić had signed a three-year contract with Aberdeen in the summer of 2023.
After a strong start to the Scottish Championship in early November, Aberdeen experienced a significant downturn, going winless in the Premiership since November 9th, during which they amassed ten losses and four draws.
Until November, Rubežić was among the top-rated defenders in Scotland, but he later found himself in a slump, often missing out on match play and frequently sitting on the bench.
His final appearance for Aberdeen came on January 25th against St. Mirren, where Scottish media reported that he was accountable for two of the opposition’s goals, leading coach Jimi Telin to substitute him just before halftime.
As noted by the BBC, Rubežić left the field amidst jeers from some supporters, and Telin stated post-match that the substitution was due to minor issues and at the request of Rubežić himself.
The Swedish coach also expressed his unwavering support for his players.
Whether this led to his unusual transfer or if other factors were involved, Rubežić has chosen to return to form with the club whose jersey he has donned before.
