While the thrilling victory against Hapoel in the Eurocup remains fresh in memory, Buducnost Voli’s players are set to defend their lead in the AdmiralBet ABA League just three days later.
The “blue and white” team faces a formidable challenge this Saturday at 17:00, as they travel to the city of the former European champion to take on Split in the regional competition.
“This game follows a demanding Eurocup match, so I believe that our approach is more crucial than tactics or other factors,” commented Andrej Žakelj, the coach of Buducnost.
The Montenegrin champions are currently on a seven-game winning streak in the ABA League, their only recent defeat being against Bahçeşehir in the Eurocup, across the last nine games.
“I naturally expect maximum effort, but energy could be a concern given the busy schedule. It’s essential for the team to have the right mindset,” Žakelj added.
Split has recently undergone a coaching change, with Veljko Mrsic taking over from Slaven Rimac.
“Split is always a challenging opponent, particularly on their home court. The new coach will likely inspire the players to show greater commitment and energy. I anticipate a tough match, but we must stay entirely focused to secure the win,” the Slovenian coach emphasized.
The standout player in the recent victory against Hapoel was Fletcher Magee, who made a critical defensive steal, followed by a key three-pointer, and then secured the win with successful free throws.
“We know it can be tough playing in Split. They have several talented players, and with a new coach, we expect them to be more motivated. We’ll review some footage to gauge their adjustments, but our familiarity with their roster should have us well-prepared,” Magee stated, reflecting on his performance.
Historically, Buducnost has won 24 out of 40 matches against Split, yet the “Gripe” arena remains challenging, with the hosts leading 6-5 in home games.
