Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ervin Ibrahimović, reaffirmed Montenegro’s dedication to European and Euro-Atlantic values, emphasizing the need for a global order grounded in regulations and dialogue.
Ibrahimović is currently in Munich, engaged in the 61st Munich Security Conference, a pivotal international forum for discussing global security challenges.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the conference unites over 700 attendees, comprising heads of state, ministers, representatives from international organizations, academia, civil society, and the business sector.
The discussions are set to tackle pressing global security issues, regional conflicts, and the future dynamics of the transatlantic partnership, as noted by the government department.
In addition to participating in various panel discussions focused on security, multilateralism, and hybrid threats, Ibrahimović has also held multiple bilateral meetings with officials from other nations and international organizations.
“Throughout these discussions, he highlighted Montenegro’s commitment to European and Euro-Atlantic values, along with the importance of maintaining a world order based on rules and dialogue,” the statement added.
He stressed the need to enhance stability in the Western Balkans, arguing that a European future offers the most secure route toward sustainable security and further prosperity in the region.
On the first day of his participation in the conference, Ibrahimović met with Michael Fenzel, the US Security Coordinator for Palestine and Israel.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that they discussed the Middle East situation and underscored the need for coordinated international efforts to achieve a lasting and sustainable resolution.
Ibrahimović expressed that Montenegro welcomes the ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages.
He expressed hope that the ceasefire would facilitate the reconstruction of Gaza and long-term reconciliation, reiterating Montenegro’s support for a two-state solution based on UN resolutions.
“In conversations with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora of Kosovo, Donika Gervala Schwarz, both parties stressed the necessity of continuously improving relations between Montenegro and Kosovo, rooted in mutual trust, good neighborliness, and a shared European and Euro-Atlantic perspective,” the statement mentioned.
Ibrahimović confirmed Montenegro’s ongoing support for Kosovo’s diplomatic goals and highlighted the significance of dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina.
“Both sides agreed on the mutual interest in enhancing economic collaboration, particularly regarding infrastructure projects that would improve connectivity,” the statement noted.
The Munich Security Conference continues today, with multipolarization as the central theme. The second day’s discussions will delve deeper into regional conflicts and crises, the European Union’s role, support for Ukraine, transatlantic security, and cooperation among the EU, NATO, and the US, as well as the economic dimensions of security.
