Rapid Cancels Contract with Milena Raičević, Required to Pay Compensation

Milena Raičević is embarking on a new chapter – just 11 months after it seemed she had secured her future at the club until 2026.

The Bucharest Rapid club has chosen to terminate the contracts of our handball player, Milena, as well as fellow star, Marta Lopes.

“The club has notified the players that they are relinquishing their services, effective immediately,” reports Gsp.ro.

Insiders close to the club have disclosed that Rapid is obligated to compensate both Milena and Marta.

Additionally, it’s reported that the renowned Montenegrin handball player held the second highest contract at the club, only behind Dutch player Estavane Polman.

Milena joined Rapid in mid-December last year after departing Budućnost. The Budućnost Bemax board initially transferred Raičević to their Rudar branch due to her lawsuit against the club for unpaid wages from the 2020/21 season during her pregnancy.

Shortly after, they mutually agreed to terminate her contract, leading to her move to Bucharest.

Milena’s unpaid wages from Budućnost remain unresolved, and there are expectations that the new management, which took over during the summer, will address this issue.

This season, Rapid has struggled, having secured only one victory in the Champions League (against Budućnost), and currently sits sixth in the Romanian championship.

Milena is now in search of a new club, but first, she aims to compete in the European Championship with Montenegro’s national team, having returned to the squad following the selection of Suzana Lazović as the new coach, replacing Bojana Popović.
