The Supreme Court of Montenegro prioritizes cases that capture public attention and aim to restore the judiciary’s reputation, stated the institution’s president, Valentina Pavličić.

According to an announcement from the Supreme Court, Pavličić held discussions with John Brandolini, Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), during the 16th session of the Group for the Review of the Implementation of the UN Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) in Vienna.

Pavličić informed Brandolini that upon taking office, and given the challenging circumstances facing the Montenegrin judiciary in recent years, she has urgently initiated efforts to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of court operations while working to restore the judiciary’s standing.

She highlighted that a key area of focus during her tenure will be to ensure a decisive and appropriate legal response from the courts to modern forms of organized crime and corruption. Activities to monitor high-profile cases have already commenced.

The statement emphasized that Brandolini expressed his approval of the initiatives presented and the measures being implemented to improve the Montenegrin judiciary’s efficiency, particularly in relation to organized crime and corruption cases.

“He conveyed UNODC’s willingness to extend any form of support and collaboration beneficial for the Montenegrin judiciary in realizing its national objectives,” the statement added.
