A number of members from the Montenegrin Government, alongside MPs and leaders from local governments, participated in the central state ceremony held in Orašac today, honoring Serbian Statehood Day. This event commemorates the First Serbian Uprising of 1804 and the ratification of the Sretenje Constitution in 1835.

The ceremony was presided over by Serbia’s outgoing Prime Minister, Miloš Vučević, acting as the envoy of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, along with Radovan Višković, Prime Minister of Republika Srpska. The event saw the attendance of high-ranking officials, regional delegations, representatives from Serbian cultural and national institutions, members of the diplomatic corps, religious leaders, scholars, and citizens.

Among those present were Montenegro’s Deputy Prime Minister Milun Zogović (DNP), as well as Ministers Vladimir Joković and Dragoslav Šćekić (SNP). The gathering also included DNP leader and MP Milan Knežević, MPs Velimir Đoković and Dejan Đurović (NSD), President of the Municipality of Pljevlja Dario Vraneš (NSD), and the President of the Municipality of Nikšić, Marko Kovačević (NSD).

In his remarks, Šćekić congratulated all citizens of Serbia.

“This significant holiday serves as a reminder of our strength, the essence of freedom, and an unyielding quest for justice and dignity. Montenegro and Serbia share unbreakable historical, cultural, and fraternal bonds that form the bedrock of our shared past and future. May the years to come facilitate even greater collaboration, advancement, and success across all domains! Long live Serbia! Long live Montenegro,” stated the SNP vice president in a media release.

As part of the ceremony, wreaths were placed with the highest state and military honors at the memorial site in Orašac, where Karađorđe Petrović initiated the fight for liberation and the restoration of Serbian statehood over two centuries ago, alongside Serbian leaders. Following the wreath-laying, attendees were privileged to hear significant speeches from officials, emphasizing the importance of this event as a pivotal moment in Serbian history—a beacon of the struggle for freedom, independence, and constitutional order,” stated the Office of the President of the Municipality of Pljevlja.

A cultural and artistic program was put together by the Ministry of Culture of Serbia, featuring performances from artists and ensembles that celebrated Serbian historical and cultural heritage.

“The attendance of the Pljevlja Municipality delegation at this event reaffirms the strong historical and cultural connections between the Serbian peoples on either side of the Drina and Lim rivers. These connections, grounded in shared history, spirituality, and tradition, will continue to thrive through collaboration in culture, education, and the economy, aimed at preserving and promoting our collective national interests,” noted a statement from Vranes’ cabinet.
