Montenegrins Outshine Slovenia with Stellar Performance on Day Two of the Tournament
The U16 women’s volleyball team of Montenegro had an impressive second day at the “Winter Cup of Nations” in Pordenone, achieving a solid win against the Italian squad PSG FB Tanks (25:12, 25:12, 25:17) and overcoming Slovenia in a thrilling match that ended 3:2 (25:22, 20:25, 22:25, 25:22, 15:10).
On the concluding day of the tournament, they are set to compete against Germany for fifth place.
In the opening match, coach Petar Koković opted to rest his primary lineup, providing all the players a chance to shine. They seized the opportunity, winning every set against PSF FB Tanks. Lina Milivojević, Mitra Gudelj, Tijana Laković, Jelena Ćorović, Jana Mrdak, Andrea Glavanović, Jelena Kosović, Tara Kovačević, and Lara Tošić delivered outstanding performances, leading Montenegro to its first victory in the tournament.
In a thrilling encounter, Montenegro’s U16 women’s team triumphed over Slovenia after five intense sets. After taking the lead 1:0 (25:22), Peković and her teammates found themselves in a challenging position as they lost the next two sets, allowing Slovenia to take a 2:1 lead. In a nail-biting fourth set, Koković’s squad rallied to equalize at 25:22 and then dominated the decisive fifth set, ending with a score of 15:10.
This victory secured their spot in the match for fifth place, where they will face the German national team on Sunday at 9 am, marking their final game at this year’s “Winter Cup of Nations” in Pordenone.
