Following Primorac, the Jadran M:tela water polo team successfully advanced to the Eurocup quarterfinals.
There was a goalless match in Kotor (17:16 against BVSC), while in Škver, the game between Novljan and Šabac concluded with one less goal, benefiting our representative team, who triumphed 13:8 in the initial match.
Ultimately, the score was 5:4, with the first goal being scored only after two minutes into the second quarter when the guests went ahead.
Shortly thereafter, Dmitrij Holod leveled the score at 1:1, and Vladimir Gojković’s squad established a strong defense in front of the outstanding Darko Đurović (with 12 saves), making it impossible for the Šabac team—led by Montenegrin national players Aljoša Mačić and Andrija Korać—to score.
Jadran initially led 2:1, but Šabac fought back to take a 3:2 lead. Key to the victory was a 3:0 surge that pushed the score to 5:3, thanks to contributions from Jovan Vujović, Holod, and Vasilije Radović. In addition to these three, Đorđe Lazić found the net for Šabac.
Jadran and Primorac have both reached the top eight in this major European competition, making a Boka Bay derby in the quarterfinals a possibility. The draw will take place tomorrow at 10 am.
“We didn’t perform our best, but we were aware it would be challenging. As for the draw, the silver lining is that Montenegrin water polo boasts two teams in the quarterfinals. I believe everyone’s hope is to avoid Pro Reko. I think we can compete with any other team,” stated Gojković.
Alongside Jadran, Primorac, and Pro Reka, teams from Mladost in Zagreb, Sabadell, Breša, Radnički from Kragujevac, and Vašaš have also qualified for the quarterfinals.
