U16 National Team Gears Up for Tournament in Pordenone in Herceg Novi
The U16 national volleyball teams of Montenegro are set to participate in the international Winter Cup of Nations tournament, scheduled to take place in Pordenone, Italy, from February 21 to 23, as announced by the Volleyball Federation.
This tournament presents an excellent opportunity for talented volleyball players born in 2009 and later to compete against their peers from various European nations and Japan.
This event is organized as part of the Kornaki World Cup, a competition that has a rich tradition spanning over four decades.
Led by coach Miljan Bošković, the men’s U16 volleyball team will be competing in their group against OK Vojvodina (a selection of players from the clubs Vojvodina, SK Volej, Stražilovo, and Novi Sad) and the Japanese national team on Friday, February 21, followed by a match against the Czech national team the next day.
Coach Bošković expressed that the tournament in Pordenone marks another milestone in the development of young Montenegro volleyball players.
“This is a truly significant tournament for these youngsters, where we will face off against teams like Japan, Vojvodina, and the Czech Republic. I would like to extend my gratitude to the Volleyball Federation, as this is the second consecutive year we have introduced the young generation born in 2009 and later, in which we are putting in a lot of effort. I anticipate that we will showcase everything we’ve accomplished so far at this tournament,” said Bošković.
The women’s U16 volleyball team, coached by Petar Koković, will compete against their peers from the Czech Republic and Japan on February 21, followed by a match against the Bulgarian national team the next day.
The women’s U16 national team has achieved commendable results in the European Championship qualifiers and is currently preparing with test matches held across Montenegro, making the upcoming duels in Pordenone a significant test.
“This experience will be invaluable for us, and we’re particularly looking forward to the match against Japan. I believe this will allow us to experience a different level of volleyball and gain valuable insights. It will serve as a solid foundation for our forthcoming training sessions,” Koković noted.
After the group stages, the top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals set for Saturday, February 22, with the tournament concluding on Sunday with the final and placement matches.
The tournament will also see the participation of the Croatian and German national teams in both competitions, as well as Hungary and the Italian team Tinet Prata in the men’s event, and the Slovenian team and the Italian side Kjons Fiume in the women’s competition.
The Montenegrin volleyball delegation is scheduled to depart for Pordenone tomorrow.
