A group of residents from the Royal Capital of Cetinje obstructed the main Cetinje-Podgorica road today at 17:26 p.m., in the area of Kruševo Ždrijelo.
This blockade, which continued until 18:00, was a show of support for the informal student organization “Where Tomorrow?”, which is spearheading protests over unmet demands following the tragedy in Cetinje on January 1st.
The demonstrators carried banners urging everyone who can to join a protest in Podgorica tomorrow, featuring a several-hour blockade in front of the Government building, as organized by a group of students, according to Radio Cetinje.
As a result of the blockade, long lines of vehicles formed on both sides of the road leading to Cetinje.
Students had previously urged citizens from across Montenegro to participate in a unified blockade from 11:00 a.m. to 17:26 p.m. They stated the protest was scheduled for 11:00 a.m. to disrupt the government’s session happening at that time with noise.
In light of the tragedy in Cetinje on January 1, 2025, students are calling for the removal of the Minister of Interior, Danilo Šaranović, and the Deputy Prime Minister for Security and Defense, Aleksa Bečić.
Furthermore, they demand urgent action from relevant institutions to proactively manage issues related to weapons possession, reform the police system, reinstate civic education as a mandatory subject in schools, and enhance the institutional approach to mental health care.
