“Government Responds to Water Demand with Higher Prices Instead of Improved Supply and Quality”
The DPS Councilors’ Club in the Berane Municipal Assembly criticized the government for choosing to impose significant price hikes rather than investing in enhancing water quality and ensuring a consistent supply.
“Following the early local elections, the newly-installed local government in Berane has unfairly burdened its citizens with water price increases as high as 130 percent. Instead of addressing the persistent issues of inconsistent water supply and the subpar quality of drinking water, the government chose a path that disregards the needs of its residents,” stated the Berane DPS.
They have emphasized that they have been sounding the alarm for years about the drinkability of water in Berane being compromised for the majority of the year, asserting that raising the price of water supply serves only to support the salaries of those who are overstaffed, rather than helping the citizens.
“The problems extend beyond just the turbidity of our drinking water; this incompetent local government has failed on multiple fronts. The Democratic Party of Socialists plans to introduce concrete actions in the near future to tackle the issues of irregular water supply and the exorbitant prices for (non)drinking water. The people of Berane deserve immediate reparations for the damage done, and hiking prices is definitely not a viable solution to their plight. We will strive to establish a sustainable resolution that prioritizes the interests of the citizens,” the statement concluded.
