A flawless start to the EHF Euro, yet concerns arise regarding Milena Raičević. The “steel lionesses” played almost perfectly against Serbia, securing a victory with a score of (24:18), but they may have to continue the championship without their captain.
“Milena mentioned that her knee ‘gave way’, and we must wait for the medical results to understand the situation… However, as a seasoned player, she has indicated that she’s not feeling well. It would be unfortunate if she couldn’t complete this championship, but she’s assured us she will support us off the field, acting as a resource for both coaches and teammates,” stated coach Suzana Lazović.
In terms of performance at the European Championship, Montenegro’s defense made a significant impact, leaving Serbia with no effective answers.
“Defense has consistently brought success to Montenegro, and I will prioritize it as a coach. While attack and other aspects are essential, everything begins with defense. Whenever we faltered, Armel Atingre stepped up to boost our morale… We’ve taken a major stride, as the first game in any tournament is always the toughest,” added the head coach during the RTCG interview.
She could hardly conceal her joy following the inaugural victory in a competitive match while coaching the “lionesses”.
“We demonstrated our capabilities, and I am proud to be part of this national team. I requested them to give their all on the field, and they truly delivered this time,” she expressed.
The next match for the “lionesses” is scheduled for Sunday at 18:15 against Romania, who previously defeated the Czech Republic in the 29th round (28:XX).
“Everything is fleeting; we are now focusing on Romania and the Czech Republic. However, I remain hopeful that we will ultimately celebrate the objectives we’ve set,” concluded Suzana Lazović.
