Tuzla Students and Pupils Protest Rise in Public Transport Fares
A large gathering of students and pupils from the Tuzla Canton convened in Tuzla on Monday, January 27th, to voice their protests regarding the rise in urban and suburban transportation fares in the region.
The Informal Citizens’ Group, which is behind the protest, reported that the monthly ticket cost was 80 marks (approximately 40 euros) from 2021 to 2023. However, following the latest decision made by the transportation company, the fare has increased to 100 marks (around 50 euros).
Recently, the Tuzla City and Suburban Transport Company announced new fare prices, which have surged by more than 30 percent, along with the suspension of service on Sundays.
This change went into effect at the beginning of January.
Students and high school attendees are advocating for free public transportation for themselves, college students, and retirees.
Additionally, they have called for an urgent meeting with the relevant city and cantonal authorities.
The City Council has arranged a meeting for February 4th to address this matter.
The City Administration mentioned that discussions will be held with mayors and city heads within the Tuzla Canton to seek solutions for the ongoing situation.
City and Suburban Transport Ltd. Tuzla is a private entity responsible for passenger transport services within the City of Tuzla and the Tuzla Canton.
