The non-governmental organization (NGO) Center for Roma Initiatives (CRI) conducted a series of six workshops focused on gender equality across various cities: Podgorica, Nikšić, Berane, Bijelo Polje, Bar, and Tivat. These workshops were part of the project “Women’s Power – Youth, Activism and Gender Equality,” with participation from 123 students from six high schools, including “Stojan Cerović” Gymnasium, “Niko Rolović,” “Panto Mališić,” “Slobodan Škerović,” Secondary Vocational School Bijelo Polje, and Secondary Mixed School “Mladost.”

Throughout the workshops, students deepened their understanding and gained new insights into the significance of gender equality, gender-sensitive language, property distribution, and equality itself. Additionally, a four-day training was held for 16 high school students from Bar, Tivat, Berane, Podgorica, and Nikšić. This training expanded their knowledge on the relevance of gender equality and gender-sensitive language, as well as issues of gender-based violence, the status of women in various sectors like science, military, and police, the unique challenges faced by Roma and Egyptian women, and the feminist movements for women in Montenegro and globally,” stated the Center for Roma Initiatives.

The training was facilitated by a team of expert lecturers: Fana Delija, Nada Drobnjak, Branka Vlahović, Ervina Dabižinović, Jelena Milić, Biljana Zeković, Aida Petrović, Nataša Međedović Pištalo, and Slavko Milić. Through a combination of lectures and workshops, they encouraged high school students to express their opinions on gender equality in Montenegro, discuss current challenges in the field, and inspire thoughts about potential changes in daily life and work.

As part of the initiative, CRI will issue a competition at the six high schools by February 15th for essays themed “Paths to Equality.” The three best entries will receive awards on International Women’s Day, March 8th. Additionally, an online campaign targeting youth regarding gender equality will be launched concurrently.

The project “Women’s Power – Youth, Activism and Gender Equality” is backed by the Ministry for Human and Minority Rights of Montenegro.

“The initiative aims to empower, educate, and inspire young individuals to actively promote gender equality in their communities and beyond, thereby fostering networking and active engagement in its advancement,” the statement noted.
