“Montenegro: A Commitment to European and Euro-Atlantic Values”

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ervin Ibrahimović is attending the 61st Munich Security Conference in Munich.

This conference stands as one of the most important international platforms for dialogue on global security matters and challenges. The 61st edition has convened over 700 attendees, including heads of state, ministers, representatives from international organizations, academia, civil society, and business leaders. The conversations are centered around existing global security challenges, regional conflicts, and the future of transatlantic relationships.

Alongside his participation in various panel discussions covering security, multilateralism, and hybrid threats, Minister Ibrahimović has conducted multiple bilateral meetings with officials from other countries and international organizations.

During these engagements, he reaffirmed Montenegro’s dedication to European and Euro-Atlantic values, as well as to fostering a global order defined by rules and dialogue. He underscored the importance of bolstering stability within the Western Balkans, stating that “the European future represents the safest route to enduring security and further prosperity for the region.”

On the initial day of the conference, Minister Ibrahimović met with U.S. Security Coordinator for Israel and the Palestinian Authority, Lieutenant General Michael Fenzel. They exchanged perspectives on the Middle East situation, acknowledging the necessity of aligning international efforts for a sustainable and enduring resolution. The Minister praised the ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages, expressing optimism that this would facilitate Gaza’s reconstruction and long-term reconciliation. He reiterated Montenegro’s endorsement of a two-state solution grounded in UN resolutions.

During a meeting with Donika Gërvalla-Schwarz, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora of the Republic of Kosovo, the significance of continually strengthening Montenegro-Kosovo relations was emphasized. These relations are founded on mutual trust, neighborly cooperation, and a shared European and Euro-Atlantic vision. Minister Ibrahimović reaffirmed Montenegro’s unwavering support for Kosovo’s foreign policy ambitions and highlighted the significance of dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina. Both leaders found common ground on the mutual interest in enhancing economic cooperation, particularly through infrastructure projects that would improve connectivity.

The Munich Security Conference’s agenda continues today, focusing on multipolarization as the central theme. The second day’s discussions will delve into regional conflicts and crises, the role of the EU and support for Ukraine, as well as transatlantic security and the economic dimensions of security.
