Another Champions League Setback: Primorac Defeated in Savona
The water polo team of Primorje faced defeat tonight in Savona against their Italian counterparts with the same name, ending the match 11:9 (2:2, 4:3, 2:3, and 3:1) in the fifth round of Group D of the Champions League.
With this loss, Primorje, who previously suffered defeat in their first encounter in Kotor, has effectively eliminated their chances of advancing to the top eight.
The former European champions remain winless in this segment of the competition, accumulating just two points from previous matches marked by subpar performances against Olympiakos and Sabadell.
Despite an impressive third quarter, Primorje could not secure their first victory.
During that period, they took an 8:6 lead following consecutive goals from Marko Mršić, Balša Vučković, and Dušan Matković.
However, the home team dominated the rest of the match, equalizing at 8:8 by the end of the third quarter and completely turning the tide in the final segment.
Dušan Matković, Balša Vučković, and Đorđije Stanojević each scored twice for Primorje, while Savo Ćetković, Nika Šušijašvili, and Marko Mršić added one goal each.
Pietro Filgioli stood out for the Italian team, leading their efforts with five goals.
