With a perfect record of three wins, a defense that instilled fear throughout Europe, and two crucial points earned for the main round…

The Montenegrin handball team showcased an impressive performance in the opening round, securing a victory over the Czech Republic (28:21) and hinting at promising prospects for the remainder of the EHF Euro…

“Throughout all three matches, it was evident that our defense was the pivotal factor in our success, even amidst some missed opportunities and technical errors in our attack. A solid defense yields the best results,” stated Suzana Lazović, the head coach of Montenegro.

The remarkable scoreline at halftime (12:4) reflects the strength of the defense her players demonstrated.

“It was a stellar first half; we held the Czech Republic, which features top talents, to just four goals and effectively neutralized their right flank,” added Lazović.

In the second half, the “lionesses” efficiently maintained their significant lead with minimal effort.

“If we were to pinpoint any shortcomings, it would be the goals conceded in the latter stages and our returning to defense, but I don’t want to let that overshadow what we accomplished—I am happy, satisfied, and proud as the girls adhered to all the requirements and showed respect for one another. Thanks to these factors, we are advancing to the next phase,” emphasized the Montenegrin coach.

Montenegro, Hungary, and France enter the main round with two points each, while their opponents, Poland and Sweden, have yet to score. Only the top two teams will make it to Vienna for the semi-finals.

“The framework is quite intricate, and securing two wins in the next round doesn’t guarantee progression, but we prefer not to calculate, just as we didn’t for this match. We’ll approach each game with the same commitment,” concluded Suzana Lazović.

Our national team is set to play its opening match on Thursday against Hungary.
