The individual who ruled the world of water polo for a decade from the Serbian sidelines is now set to coach Montenegro.

This morning, a significant announcement reverberated through water polo communities: Dejan Savić has been appointed as the new head coach of the “Sharks”.

“Receiving the invitation from Montenegro is, above all, a profound honor, which I regard as a tremendous opportunity to achieve remarkable results together,” Savić stated during an interview with the Water Polo and Swimming Association of Montenegro.

Throughout his coaching career, Savić has celebrated numerous victories against Montenegro, where the “Sharks” have frequently posed as formidable opponents to his “dream team”.

“For many years, we have been fierce sports competitors, yet also friends; thus, arriving in Montenegro feels like returning to friends. Because of this, I relish the challenge ahead, which comes with great responsibility that I am wholly committed to fulfilling,” Savić expressed clearly.

The initial, yet daunting task for Nikola Milić, the new president of the Water Polo and Swimming Association of Montenegro, was to find a replacement for the departed coach Vladimir Gojković.

“It’s a privilege for us that Savić, as one of the most esteemed coaches worldwide, has agreed to lead Montenegro. He is recognized for his passionate approach and ability to inspire players, which is crucial for us at this juncture,” Milić noted, further adding:

“Moreover, we aspired to have a coach who understands the mentality and unique aspects of our environment and the significance of this sport to Montenegro. There’s no doubt that Dejan is aware of this,” Milić concluded.
