The Montenegrin women’s basketball team is determined to defeat Switzerland and secure a spot in the European Championship, as stated by shooting guard Dragana Živković.
The team has convened in Bar to start their preparations for the final stage of the European Championship qualifiers.
Victory in Thursday’s away game against Switzerland in Aarau would mark Montenegro’s eighth consecutive appearance at the European Championship.
Živković emphasized their awareness of the unique opportunity the women’s basketball team has.
“We aim to earn our place in Eurobasket. Since Montenegro has participated in every European Championship since 2011, it’s evident what an achievement that is. While we may have accustomed the public to this success, I must stress that it’s quite challenging for such a small country. We want to make Montenegro proud,” Živković shared.
She highlighted their continuous strive for improvement and competition at every level, cycle, and championship.
“During the pre-qualifications for the World Cup, we proved we can compete against anyone, so I have high hopes that we can deliver another impressive performance when it matters most,” Živković noted.
Following their match against Switzerland on February 6th, the Montenegrin women’s basketball team will play Luxembourg in Bar three days later.
In this qualification phase, Luxembourg and Montenegro both hold similar standings in Group H with three wins and a loss, while Switzerland has two wins and two losses, and Bosnia and Herzegovina has yet to secure a win after four matches.
Živković expressed that the players’ motivation is at an all-time high.
“Every player has a special drive. Personally, my desire and motivation for representing the national team are always at their peak. I cherish playing for Montenegro,” she affirmed.
