According to information from “Basket News,” the Euroleague is exploring the possibility of adding two more clubs to its roster.
The prestigious European basketball competition aims to retain teams of strategic and historical significance, such as Valencia, which faced relegation last season but remains appealing for fans and marketing purposes.
Currently, there are six available slots for clubs that are not co-owners of the Euroleague. These include Monaco, Paris, Red Star, Partizan, Virtus, and Alba.
Expanding the league could enable the allocation of additional multi-year licenses to a greater number of teams. This new format would result in an increased total number of matches, raising the weeks with two games from seven to nine, further complicating the schedule with FIBA’s qualifying tournaments.
The last instance of league expansion by two teams occurred in the 2019/2020 season.
