The current government has achieved nothing in the last five years regarding the development of any region in Montenegro, including the north, stated Danijel Živković, the president of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), during a forum held in Kolašin yesterday. He emphasized the urgency to place this government in opposition to initiate the most extensive investment cycle ever planned for the country, as outlined in their Program.
Živković pointed out that Kolašin serves as a prime example of how development projects can transform perspectives and enhance residents’ quality of life, according to a statement from the DPS.
“Do you recall when we were constructing the highway and were told it was a road from nowhere to nothing? Today, it’s evident how significantly that particular project has altered the outlook not just for Kolašin but for all the northern cities. We also initiated a project to connect ski resorts, which was intended to provide Montenegro with 250 km of ski slopes, positioning it as one of the most appealing winter tourist destinations in Europe; however, that project has now been completely halted,” noted the DPS president.
DPS Vice President Ivan Vuović remarked that we are currently witnessing efforts from the highest state levels to obstruct Montenegro’s European progress.
“This is the path our party has embraced in Montenegro; we have opened all negotiation chapters except for three which are temporarily closed. As the opposition, we are fully committed to this path and have voted in favor of all proposals in Parliament that align with the European agenda. Nevertheless, when the Constitution is disregarded and the state’s legal framework is compromised, it is our duty as a responsible political party to oppose this and guide the government back to constitutional norms,” he emphasized.
Aleksandra Vuković Kuč, also a vice president of DPS, stated that they have developed a 10-point program addressing all facets and aspects of life in Montenegro, asserting that it underscores the quality of her party’s proposals.
“We have outlined a strategy to lead Montenegro out of its deep crisis upon regaining power and to continue from where we left off in 2020. Our plans include a plethora of investments, with particular focus on culture and ecology. However, to implement this program, we must send this government into the past during the parliamentary elections. Therefore, we must dedicate ourselves to working tirelessly and engaging with citizens continuously to demonstrate the superiority of our political offer,” she mentioned.
The head of the DPS parliamentary group, Andrija Nikolić, expressed satisfaction with the achievements made in the previous period, particularly noting that the recent local elections, occurring across various municipalities, affirm the growing trust in DPS policies. He voiced strong optimism that this trend will persist.
The DPS conveyed that Nikolić reminded attendees of his party’s deputies’ active participation in Parliament, highlighting their significant influence on Montenegro’s socio-political landscape, while addressing the numerous illegalities and irregularities faced since August 2020. He also stressed that the upcoming DPS congress will further signify the party’s strong presence in the Montenegrin political arena and serve as an opportunity to bolster their political backing.
