In a thrilling encounter, the Red Star basketball team triumphed over their city rivals, Partizan, with a score of 73:71 (21:18, 21:19, 13:16, 18:18) this evening during the away match in Belgrade, marking the end of Partizan’s three-game winning streak in the Euroleague.

Filip Petrushev led the scoring for Red Star with 17 points, followed by Joel Bolomboy with 14 points, and Cody Miller McIntyre who contributed 11 points.

Red Star was without Majko Daum, as he continues his recovery from left knee surgery.

For Partizan, Karlik Jones was the standout performer with 20 points. Captain Vanja Marinković and point guard Frank Nilikina were unavailable due to injuries, while Aleksej Pokushevski and Mitar Bošnjaković missed the match due to illness.

Before the game commenced, a moment of silence was observed in memory of the late Dražen Dalipagić, a legendary player for Partizan and the Yugoslav national team. Players from both teams displayed a banner reading “Prajo, rest in peace!”.

The match began with both teams showcasing strong defensive strategies, each recording two steals, leading to a tied score of 5:5 after three minutes.

As the game progressed, the teams found their offensive rhythm, exchanging baskets and remaining tied at 14:14 with three minutes left in the first quarter. Red Star gained a five-point edge (21:16) thanks to a three-pointer from Nemanja Nedović and ended the quarter ahead 21:18.

Both teams maintained an even pace at the start of the second quarter, with Red Star leading 26:23 after three minutes.

Partizan responded with a 6:0 run, culminating in Sterling Brown’s second three-pointer, putting them ahead 29:26 with six minutes remaining in the half.

Tensions rose as Tyreke Jones received a technical foul, which resulted in his fourth personal foul. Red Star regained the lead (33:31) and, with a last-second layup from Cody Miller-McIntyre, went into halftime leading 42:37.

The teams exchanged points to start the third quarter, with Dwayne Washington helping Partizan reduce the deficit to one point at 45:44 after four minutes. However, Red Star maintained their lead at 47:46 midway through the quarter. Partizan executed solid defense and Karlik Jones scored a three-pointer, giving them a 51:49 lead, but Red Star reclaimed it with free throws from Miller-McIntyre. Jones missed a last-second three-pointer, leaving Red Star leading 55:53 at the end of the third quarter.

Red Star improved their rebounding in the final quarter, with Filip Petrushev scoring after his team collected their third offensive rebound, extending their lead to 66:60 after four minutes.

Partizan tightened their defensive rebounding and leveled the score at 68:68 with just three minutes remaining, thanks to a three-pointer from Isak Bonga.

As the game concluded in a tense atmosphere, Red Star guard Nemanja Nedović drew a foul with just one second left. He successfully made the first two free throws, and with not enough time to recover after a missed third free throw, Red Star secured their victory at 73:71. Red Star now holds a record of 14 wins and 10 losses, while Partizan stands at 12 wins and 12 losses.

In their next matchup, Red Star will host Asvel in Belgrade, while Partizan will face Virtus in Bologna.
