Vučić: No Protest Note to Montenegro Despite Their UN General Assembly Vote

Aleksandar Vučić

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić remarked this evening that Serbia will not deliver a protest note to Montenegro, despite having voted for the Resolution on Srebrenica during a session of the UN General Assembly. He expressed his belief that Montenegro would never support any potential resolution condemning genocide in Jasenovac.

– Montenegro has expressed since 2006 that it desires independence, saying they would prefer to be without us. They went ahead and recognized Kosovo’s independence in 2008. We have stood firm against those who recognized Kosovo, reiterating our stance countless times in Serbia. If a vote for Kosovo’s accession to the Council of Europe were held, they would endorse it. Montenegro will never introduce any laws or resolutions regarding genocide in Jasenovac, despite their own actions in this regard. They did so in hopes of distracting attention from Srebrenica, but I state unequivocally that they will not support that resolution, and I will retract my statement publicly if proven wrong,” Vučić stated.

He emphasized that he was more disappointed by Northern Macedonia’s vote than by Montenegro’s.

– There are always numerous justifications… It is painful because I have invested significantly in our relationships with our Macedonian brethren. However, it was not conducted fairly. Greece has shown more resolve than North Macedonia,” Vučić remarked.

He described this situation as an instance of “political treachery” and noted that world leaders were taken aback by the vote on the Srebrenica Resolution at the UN General Assembly.
