Following the announcement of the tender for the highway section leading to Bar, specifically for Virpazar – Stari Bar, Montenegro has also disclosed plans for the fast road connecting Nikšić – Žabljak – Pljevlja, as reported by eKapija.
The project includes sections Niškić-Šavnik, Šavnik-Žabljak, and Žabljak-Pljevlja (Vrulja).
The total length of the Nikšić – Žabljak – Pljevlja segment will be 96 kilometers, featuring four lanes, with a designated speed limit of 100 kilometers per hour.
The starting point for the fast road will be at the Kapino Polje interchange, concluding with the express route Crnča – Pljevlja, as noted by eKapija.
According to the documentation, a budget of 169,421.49 euros has been allocated for this project, which amounts to 205,000 euros including VAT, and the deadline for developing a conceptual design is six months from the contract signing date.
As clarified in the project directive, the existing spatial plan for Montenegro anticipates high-speed motor traffic along the route from Šćepan Polje (border with Bosnia and Herzegovina) to Plužine – Nikšić – Podgorica.
“The objective of this project directive is to outline the conditions for creating a conceptual design for the fast road segment from Nikšić to Plužine and evaluate potential rapid routes to Žabljak and Pljevlja, including all necessary elements for this road classification,” as stated in the tender documentation.
Considering that this route will serve as a crucial traffic link between Northern and Central Montenegro, the establishment of a rapid roadway is expected to significantly enhance regional connectivity, economic collaboration, and development, according to the assessment within the tender.
