The Basic State Prosecutor’s Office in Podgorica announced today that following an interrogation, they have ordered the detention of an individual identified as ZA for a period of up to 72 hours due to suspicions of kidnapping.
According to the statement, “On December 18, 2024, at approximately 6 p.m., the suspect, in collaboration with another individual, approached a bus stop in a white van where five Indian nationals were waiting. They offered the victims a ride to Budva.”
The prosecutor’s office further reported that instead of heading to Budva, the victims were taken to a location in Podgorica where they were imprisoned, assaulted with a wooden bat and fists, and threatened with a knife and a firearm in an attempt to extort money from them.
“After four days, the victims were transported close to the border crossing with Bosnia and Herzegovina and transferred to other individuals who kept them captive for several days, demanding money from their families in India, which was deposited into the account of one of their captors,” the statement added.
