Montenegro and the United Kingdom are dedicated to enhancing their partnership and alliance, as highlighted in a meeting between Defense Minister Dragan Krapović and his British counterpart Luke Pollard.
According to the Ministry of Defense, the two ministers signed a Memorandum of Understanding to bolster bilateral defense and security collaboration during Krapović’s working visit to the UK.
Krapović and Pollard expressed that the signing of the updated 2017 Memorandum clearly showcases their commitment to reinforcing partnership and alliance relations.
Krapović emphasized the significance of the UK’s contribution to enhancing the capacities of Montenegro’s Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces (AVM), particularly in human resources, which he called the most essential element of the defense system.
“This contribution is primarily demonstrated through opportunities for professional growth at esteemed British military educational institutions,” remarked Krapović.
He also highlighted the importance of various specialized training programs and exercises that enable members of the Armed Forces of Montenegro to bolster their capabilities in collaboration with the British Armed Forces, in order to address escalating security challenges.
Pollard affirmed the UK’s readiness to maintain intensive defense cooperation with Montenegro, describing it as a reliable ally that plays an active role in the collective security framework.
According to the statement, the two officials reviewed the current political and security landscape in Europe, with particular attention to the war in Ukraine and the increasing necessity for defense spending and investments in defense infrastructure.
The Ministry further noted that Krapović had a working lunch with Lord Vernon Coker, a member of the House of Lords, where they discussed geopolitical dynamics and the significance of coordinated efforts by allies to tackle the security challenges that Europe and the world face.
During his visit to the UK, Krapović is expected to tour the Royal College of Defence Studies, meet with the Business and Trade Agency, and witness a demonstration of the capabilities of the British Armed Forces.
