No Boycott of Stores in Republika Srpska

Despite appeals to refrain from shopping, the residents of the Bosnian entity of Republika Srpska (RS) spent 59.3 million marks yesterday, marking a recorded turnover through fiscal cash registers that is nearly 17 million convertible marks (KM) higher than the previous day.

Specifically, as noted by the Tax Administration of the Republic of Srpska to “Nezavisne novine”, a turnover of 42.5 million KM was logged through fiscal cash registers on Thursday.

“For context, the total turnover recorded through fiscal cash registers in Republika Srpska on January 24, 2025 (the last Friday) was 42.7 million KM,” they reported for “Nezavisne novine,” indicating that citizens ignored the boycott.

The Tax Administration also shared figures from the same dates last year, revealing that citizens spent 30 million KM on January 27, 2024, while turnover on January 31 last year reached 39.8 million KM.

All these amounts are significantly less than what was spent yesterday.

In recent days, residents of RS and Bosnia and Herzegovina were encouraged through social media to abstain from shopping on Friday, or specifically yesterday, in protest against high prices at stores and retail chains.
