Following two rounds in the main stage, France and Hungary have clinched their spots in the semi-finals. Norway is also assured of its place among the top four, leaving one significant question from the European Championship to be settled – in a direct clash.
The handball teams of Denmark and the Netherlands will determine, on Wednesday at 18:05, which national squad advances to the semi-finals and which one must compete for the fifth position.
This match could hold significance for Montenegro as well. If our handball players win against Sweden tomorrow (at 20:30), they will await their opponent for the fifth-place match. If Denmark is that team, the “lionesses” would secure a spot in the World Championship they are hosting in 2025, alongside Germany and the Netherlands.
In the penultimate round, Denmark triumphed over Slovenia, with our Dragan Adžić leading the team to victory (33:26). Earlier today, the Netherlands, powered by Zoe Sprengers (seven goals) and Angela Malestein (six goals), defeated Switzerland (37:29) without much difficulty.
Under the guidance of the esteemed Montenegrin coach, victory could keep the team alive in the semi-final hunt. They posed a threat during the first half, having led by two points several times, but Denmark turned the tide before halftime and maintained their dominance throughout the second half.
Elma Halilčević, who has Bosnian roots and was born in Esbjerg, led the Scandinavian team to success with six goals, while Andrea Ogot Hansen scored five times.
On the opposing side, Tjaša Stanko shined, contributing eight goals as the top scorer.
Norway confirmed its first-place position in Group 2 with a victory over Germany (32:27), while tomorrow’s match between Hungary and France will determine the top two positions before the semi-finals, scheduled right before our national team’s match.
