Citizens Hand Over 19 Weapons in a Single Day

Yesterday, individuals voluntarily handed over 19 weapons, 346 ammunition rounds, a hand grenade, a machine gun, and components of firearms.
Under the campaign “Respect life, return weapons”, a total of 1,915 weapons, 63,450 pieces of ammunition, 201 hand grenades, along with various weapon parts and explosive devices, have been surrendered to the Police Department voluntarily since January.
Citizens from Podgorica and Cetinje turned in seven weapons to the police yesterday, consisting of three pistols and four rifles, along with 65 rounds of various types and calibers of ammunition.
In Bar, one firearm and 143 rounds of assorted ammunition were returned voluntarily.
A combined total of six firearms were surrendered in Bijelo Polje and Berane, including three rifles, a machine gun, two pistols, 133 rounds of various types of ammunition, three grenades, and weapon components.
Residents of Nikšić, Plužine, and Pljevlja relinquished five firearms, with three being rifles and two pistols, alongside five rounds of ammunition.
“We would like to remind everyone that possessing firearms that belonged to family members or relatives, regardless of whether a probate process has occurred in court, is considered illegal under the Weapons Act unless a legal heir obtains permission from the Ministry of Internal Affairs to possess the weapon,” the police stated.
They reiterated that citizens can contact the police at 122 to inform officers of their intention to surrender a weapon, free from any legal, criminal, or administrative consequences, regardless of the weapon’s legal status.
