Katarina Vlahović, a member of the Montenegrin karate national team, secured a bronze medal in kata at the European Cadet, Junior, and Young Senior Championships held in Poland.
In the match for third place, the Iskra junior triumphed over Spaniard Abril Anhulo Madrid with a score of 30.0 to 38.5.
Initially, Vlahović faced a setback against Germany’s Shirley Jay, who later advanced to the finals and qualified for the repechage. However, she bounced back with wins over Greece’s Atina Cikmaki and the Czech Republic’s Katarina Novaková, earning her a shot at the medal.
This marks Vlahović’s second medal in international competitions in Bielsko-Biała, following her bronze victory at the World Youth League in Poreč last year.
“This is a remarkable achievement for me, my club, and the national team. I am still processing this success, but I am incredibly grateful to my club, my teammates from the national team, and all the coaches who supported me throughout this journey,” stated Vlahović.
Vlahović is set to compete in the team event tomorrow, alongside fellow Montenegrin cadet-junior team members Viktorija Raičević and Mia Ramović.
Additionally, other Montenegrin participants had noteworthy performances, with cadet Neda Beljkaš finishing ninth in kata and Vasilija Bijelović competing in wrestling in the under 47 kilograms category.
The schedule for Saturday includes team kata performances and junior competitions, with final matches planned for Sunday.
