The significant chapter has concluded – Milena Raičević has chosen to bid farewell to handball following the match against Sweden at the European Championship.
“I’m wrapping up my career – I’m delighted it concluded with the national team rather than in the Budućnost jersey,” Milena stated to RTCG after the match.
The handball virtuoso said her goodbyes to her beloved sport at the age of 35.
Milena was integral to Montenegro’s remarkable history, a hero of the European gold medal achievement in 2012 in Belgrade, and one of the key players contributing to the historic Olympic silver medal the same year in London.
While wearing the Budućnost jersey, her one and only club love, she created unforgettable memories and guided the “blue and white” team to two stars in the Champions League – the only titles in the club’s history from Podgorica.
She had intended to close her chapter with another major success while representing Montenegro, but a knee injury at the beginning of this year’s EHF Euro thwarted that plan.
Despite not having a grand finale at this tournament, her legacy in handball and sports is undeniably one of the finest in Montenegro.
