Previously, the encounters between Partizan and SC Derby have showcased high-quality performances and unpredictable outcomes, with the Podgorica team occasionally pulling off surprising victories against their stronger opponents.
One of the notable moments was when the “students” triumphed over Partizan in Belgrade during the first match of the quarter-finals in the 2022/2023 season, coming close to another victory in Podgorica, which would have secured them a surprising place in the semi-finals. Another memorable victory was the Super Cup in Podgorica in September 2023, where Borna Kapusta led the “black and whites” to defeat, clinching the trophy for the Podgorica team. Since then, Partizan has emerged victorious in all three subsequent matchups.
Tonight (20), Partizan is the clear favorite as they face off at the Belgrade Arena in the 19th round of the regional league. The “Students” arrive in the Serbian capital following a loss to Zadar, which halted their two-game winning streak in the regional league. However, a crucial factor for Petar Mijović’s squad is their comfortable distance from the relegation zone.
– This will undeniably be one of the toughest matches yet. Partizan is the undisputed favorite, no question about it. They are in excellent form, playing outstanding basketball under a top-tier coach. We need to rise to the occasion and match their level. We understand that our performance will largely hinge on their attitude and commitment – Mijović commented.
SC Derby has its own aspirations.
– I am hopeful that we can achieve our objectives in the upcoming game, and that we will meet the challenge head-on. Our aim in such games is to secure what we need to continue our advancement – Mijović continued.
In their first meeting, held in Podgorica, Partizan secured a decisive win (80:60).
– We have a crucial game ahead that could yield significant benefits if we approach it correctly. There’s no need for lengthy discussions about Partizan, as we know the caliber of their team—one with ambitions at the top of the Euroleague competition as well – remarked SC Derbi player Andrija Grbović.
Motivation is at an all-time high.
– I believe the key factor now is to demonstrate responsibility and concentration in our one-on-one defense. Motivation is in abundant supply for this match; it’s vital that we enter the game with courage and determination and execute what we’ve been preparing these past few days – concluded Grbović.
Partizan approaches this match following a defeat to Red Star Belgrade (73:71) in the Euroleague “eternal derby.”
– Our training has focused on recovery and reviewing footage to prepare some tactical aspects for the match, which we approach with the utmost respect for our opponent. We will see how the condition of our sick and injured players evolves, but that does not lessen our responsibility to give our best – emphasized Željko Obradović.
