“Fifty Thousand Is Sufficient; The Ministry of Interior Must Provide Support”

The initial design for reconstructing a portion of the former Hydrographic Institute of the Navy of the Army of Montenegro building in Lepetani (HIRM) is expected to be completed in approximately ten days. This project aims to temporarily relocate Tivat’s police station to the site by year’s end in collaboration with the Ministry of the Interior.

This confirmation came from the director of the Investment Directorate of the Municipality of Tivat, Vlado Brguljan, who stated that the precise total investment cost will only be determined once the design is finalized.

The municipality has earmarked 50,000 euros in its Public Procurement Plan for this year for the renovation of the former HIRM facility. However, it is anticipated that this amount will not suffice, and additional funding will need to be provided by the Ministry of Internal Affairs. A special memorandum of cooperation will be established between the local administration of Tivat and the Ministry for this purpose.

Constructed between the two world wars, the HIRM building has been vacant for many years and is currently in a deteriorated state. The Tivat local administration plans to convert part of this building into temporary accommodations for the police station, as the existing wooden barracks, housing the Tivat Security Department since 1979, is in critical condition and nearly on the verge of collapse.

Located in a prime area across from Porto Montenegro and the Tivat school center, the barracks is slated for demolition and removal. The over 2,700 square meter site, owned by the Municipality of Tivat, needs to be cleared for the planned construction of a new, modern Fire Station and Police Station, a project that will be developed in partnership between the local government and the state.

Recently, the Municipality of Tivat held a national architectural competition, offering a total of 45,000 euros to generate a conceptual design for the new Fire Station and Police Station. The best design was awarded to architects Matija Vujisić and Mladen Kadić from Podgorica.
