Savić’s inaugural roster, the “Sharks,” will kick off World Cup preparations on Monday.
This Monday, Montenegro’s senior water polo team will commence their preparations for the A division qualification tournament for the World Cup. The event is set to take place from January 6 to 12 in Otopeni, Romania, as announced by the Water Polo Swimming Association.
Head coach Dejan Savić has called upon 27 athletes for the initial training session under his direction.
The roster features players such as Darko Đurović (Jadran m:tel), Petar Tešanović (Marseille), Lazar Andrić (Montpellier), Vladan Spaić (Marseille), Miroslav Perković (Novi Belgrade), Dušan Banićević (Adriatic Split), Savo Ćetković (Primorac), Jovan Vujović (Jadran m:tel), Aljoša Mačić (Sabac), Vasilije Radović (Jadran m:tel), Bogdan Đurđić (Vašaš), Vlado Popadić (Strasbourg), Uroš Vučurović (Jadran m:tel), Martin Gardašević (Strasbourg), and Nikola Moskov (Onda Forte Roma).
Other invited players include Filip Gardašević (Oradea), Danilo Radović (Jadran m:tel), Marko Mršić (Primorac), Dušan Matković (Primorac), Đuro Radović (Novi Beograd), Matija Sladović (Jadran m:tel), Andrija Korać (Šabac), Balša Vučković (Primorac), Srđan Janović (Primorac), Danilo Stupar (Jadran m:tel), Strahinja Gojković (Jadran m:tel), and Đorđije Stanojević (Primorac).
In Romania, the Montenegrin water polo team will compete in group B alongside Greece and Serbia.
Group A consists of France, Spain, and Hungary, while Romania, Japan, and the United States are in group C. Croatia and Georgia are placed in group D, following Italy’s suspension and Australia’s withdrawal from the tournament.
The group winners will advance directly to the quarterfinals, while the second- and third-placed teams will compete for positions among the top eight.
Six teams finishing first in this tournament, along with two from the B division, will earn spots in the Super Final of the World Cup, scheduled for April 2025.
The top three teams at the Super Final will qualify for the World Cup, which will take place in Singapore from July 11 to August 3, 2025.
