Milena Raičević embodies resilience, commitment, and pride for Montenegro, noted Dušan Simonović, the president of the Montenegrin Olympic Committee.
In a letter addressing her retirement from professional handball, he conveyed his profound gratitude and respect for one of Montenegro’s most accomplished athletes.
“Finding the appropriate words is challenging when bidding farewell to someone who has made such a significant impact on handball, sports, and our nation. Your journey transcends sports; it is a narrative of bravery, perseverance, and love for Montenegro,” Simonović stated in his message.
He pointed out that Raičević played a crucial role in all the pivotal moments of Montenegrin handball, being an integral part of the team that earned Olympic silver in London and the unforgettable European gold in Belgrade in 2012.
“Every action you took on the field was a source of inspiration. Each goal, each assist, and every contested ball showcased your remarkable dedication. Although an injury hindered you from concluding your career as you wished, this does not lessen your career’s greatness. On the contrary, your resilience in tough times will continue to motivate us,” Simonović expressed.
He expressed gratitude to the medal-winning athlete for always representing Montenegro with pride and for being a role model in sports and national pride.
“Thank you for the countless moments of pride you’ve given us all. I wish you tremendous success in your future endeavors, and I am confident that you will excel in everything you pursue, just as you did on the field,” Simonović concluded.
Following a defeat to Sweden in the main round of the European Championship, Raičević announced her retirement from playing.
Raičević contributed to winning every medal for the national teams and significant trophies with Budućnost, retiring at the age of 35.
