Marcus Rashford, the former Manchester United star, expressed his gratitude for the loan move to Aston Villa, emphasizing his desire to focus on playing football.
Late last night, Rashford officially joined Aston Villa on loan from Manchester United for the remainder of the season. According to Sky Sports, Aston Villa will cover at least 75% of his wages, with the possibility of rising to 90% depending on the team’s performance.
“I’m thankful to both Manchester United and Aston Villa for facilitating this loan. I was fortunate to have interest from multiple clubs, but choosing Aston Villa was straightforward; I truly respect their style of play this season and the manager’s ambitions,” Rashford stated.
While the clubs have yet to disclose financial specifics, UK media has reported that Aston Villa holds an option to purchase Rashford’s contract for £40 million as part of the loan agreement.
“All I want is to play football, and I’m eager to get started. I wish everyone at Manchester United the best for the remainder of the season,” added Rashford, who is 27 years old.
Rashford has not appeared for United since December 12, following coach Ruben Amorim’s comments regarding his lack of commitment in training.
He was also omitted from the England national team for last year’s European Championship, after a campaign marred by disciplinary issues at United.
Recently, Amorim mentioned that he would prefer to have a 63-year-old goalkeeping coach on the bench over Rashford, who has netted seven goals across all competitions this season.
British reports indicate that communication between Rashford and Amorim has broken down.
Throughout his career, Rashford has been devoted to Manchester United, amassing 426 appearances and scoring 138 goals for the club.
